Exercising dogs one bike ride at a time.

About Pedal & Pawz

When your dog needs more than a walk!

Pedal & Pawz is for the dogs who need more than a walk. Walks are great for sniffing and mental stimulation, but some dogs have energy a leisurely stroll can't touch. We believe every dog deserves the chance to really run and feel that freedom. Not everyone loves biking, especially while managing a dog on the move.

That's where we come in. Hire Pedal & Pawz to give your dog's body and mind the workout it's actually craving.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at pedalandpawz@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Yes, we offer more than just bike rides! You can also book dog walks and dog sitting. Sitting comes in two options: drop-in visits, and overnight stays, where your sitter stays at your home while you're away and takes care of your dog(s).

For your first session, we'll arrive 20 minutes early, at no extra charge, to meet you and your dog and check how the harness fits. You need to be home for this first session, for the safety of both your dog and our biker. Your session then runs for the full time you booked, so a 30 minute booking is a 20 minute meet and greet followed by a 30 minute ride. You'll also sign a waiver when you book.

Because the first session can be a little wonky as your dog and our biker get comfortable with each other, it may be more of a slower paced training session to get your dog used to the bike. If your dog adjusts quickly, they'll get more exercise right away. Please make sure your dog is wearing a collar with an ID tag, and avoid feeding them close to ride time, since it can cause an upset stomach.

Most clients book sessions while they're at work, so, like a dog walker, we'll come into your home, harness your dog, and safely put them back inside afterward. Once we've met and the routine is set, you can book sessions while you're working or out of town. You don't have to be away, either. If you're home and just want someone to take your dog out when the weather isn't great, that's what we're here for.

After each session, you'll get a text about how it went, along with photos.

This service works best for dogs who are fairly confident out in the world: comfortable around loud noises, other dogs, strollers, and general street activity.

That doesn't mean a skittish dog can never learn to ride alongside a bike, some absolutely can with time and patience. But if your dog already struggles on regular walks, gets spooked by passing strollers, bikes, trucks, or loud cars, they may not be a great fit for this service right away. However, book a training session first to see how your dog does.

That's okay! Many dogs are new to harnesses, and we have a range of sizes to fit all kinds of dogs. The one requirement is that your dog be comfortable having someone other than you put the harness on them.

If your dog isn't comfortable with that, we suggest being home when Pedal & Pawz arrives so you can put the harness on your dog yourself before the ride.

Safety comes first at Pedal & Pawz.

The bike attachment is securely fastened, and each dog wears a harness provided by Pedal & Pawz, available in a range of sizes to ensure the most secure and appropriate fit. This keeps your dog a safe distance from the tires and out of the bike's path. The whole setup is built to keep your dog as protected as possible while still letting them run freely alongside the bike.

We also stick to sidewalks, bike lanes, and low-traffic streets whenever possible, to minimize any contact with vehicles.

We can't predict every possible outcome, but we're prepared to handle it if something does happen. Pedal & Pawz does everything possible to ensure a safe, fun ride for your dog, but unforeseen situations can still occur. If something does happen, whether it's a minor injury, a bike issue, or anything else, we act quickly to keep your dog safe first, and you'll be contacted directly at the phone number you provided as soon as possible.

Any form of exercise carries some risk, but we work hard to keep that risk as low as possible. Running is excellent for a dog's physical and mental health when it's paced appropriately, and that's exactly what we focus on. Pedal & Pawz will tailor the ride to your dog's current fitness level, alternating between trotting and running rather than keeping them continually running the whole time.

We build in regular stops for water and rest breaks throughout the ride, and we watch closely for signs of fatigue or overheating, adjusting the pace or stopping as needed. The goal is always a workout that matches where your dog is at, not one that overexerts them.

Most breeds and sizes are welcome. That said, small or short-nosed breeds like Chihuahuas, pugs, and French Bulldogs aren't accepted for this service, since their size and breathing capacity aren't well suited to sustained running alongside a bike. If you're ever unsure whether your dog is a good fit, use your best judgment, and feel free to reach out to Pedal & Pawz directly.

If the weather becomes too dangerous to ride in, you'll receive a full refund or the option to reschedule for another day. We're happy to ride in light wind and rain, but PNW weather can change quickly and with little warning, so we'll make the call based on what's safe for your dog.

If we need to cancel, we'll do our best to let you know at least 4 hours before your scheduled ride. We can't always predict weather or emergencies as far ahead as you can plan your schedule, so we may not always be able to give that much notice, but we'll always give you as much as we can. The same goes for personal emergencies on our end, like a sick child sent home from school. Whatever the reason, if Pedal & Pawz cancels, you can reschedule or get a full refund.

To receive a full refund, please cancel at least 24 hours before your dog's scheduled ride. We're a small business and rely on every booking. A last-minute cancellation doesn't give another client the chance to book that time slot, which makes it hard for us to make up the lost income. Thank you for understanding!
